Budhanilkantha is one of the sacred pilgrimages for Hindu devotees. It is situated nearly 8-km north of Kathmandu. It is one of the remarkable, colossal statues of lord Vishnu reclining on a bed of snakes. This statue is said to have erected in the 5th-century. This fifth century statue lies in the middle of a small pond. Budhanikantha is a place of pilgrimage for all Hindus and is the scene of great activity at such festivals as Haribodhini ekadasi and Kartik Poornima. An interesting feature of this shrine is that the reigning King of Nepal might not visit the spot, According to an old tradition, as he was said to be the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu.
