Ganden Samye trekking is one of the popular trekking trips in Tibet. Ganden and Samye is famous pilgrimage route situated in high altitude areas. Ganden is situated at (4,180 m) height where as Samye is situated a bit lower altitude at 3,540 m) height. Ganden is situated at 45 km east of Lhasa at the southern bank of Kyi Chu and Mendro Gongkar. This is one of the beautiful Buddhist sites in Tibet. This ancient monastery is built on the ridge of Gokpa RI, where influential Buddhist monk Tsong Lhapa said to have mediated in between 1357-1419.
The trekking trip begins with a direct flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa and then you will have excursion around Lhasa, the sacred and the capital city of Tibet, where you will explore around old palaces such as Potala Palace explore the ancient arts and architecture, Buddhist tradition all around and then drive up to Gaden monastery, one of the influential monastery in Tibet. After exploring this particular monastery, you will continue trekking for next four days, you will trek through highland yak pasture and cross high pass called Shugu La Pass (5,200 m) and then and visit to Yarlung valley and finally reach at Samye, the first and the holiest monastery in Tibet, where great Buddhist Saints Guru Padmasabhava also said to have meditated and making an excursion all around, you will drive up to Gonggar and fly back to Kathmandu.
